An important conceptual tool used in the field of education to identify what the new generation of local / global citizens ought to be, is that of “International Mindedness”. In its diploma programme the IB advocates “International Mindedness” as an essential quality that needs to be inculcated in students. They are better prepared to work together to not only improve their knowledge and understanding of the world but also initiate responsible and appropriate actions towards making this world a better place.
Being International Minded would enable students to appreciate their own culture and those of others no matter how different they may be.It also enables them to be open to other values, traditions and points of view. They are willing to learn from their own experiences and those of others and are able to effectively and appropriately respond to local and global issues. Towards this end IB ensures that “International Mindedness” is operationalized not only in the written curriculum and teaching learning process but teachers are constantly reminded that this attribute together with the learner profile is of prime importance in the IB programme.
